Scholarship Information

 

When and How do I apply for a Scholarship with the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club?

You can begin to apply for a Scholarship with the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club on September 1st. Simply go to our Scholarship Application, print the application, complete the application and then scan and upload here. You may also go to your school's Guidance Office to fill out and complete the application. A short essay is also a part of the application process along with a copy of your unofficial transcript. Once you have the completed application, be sure they attach your unofficial transcript to your application for submission. You may also submit your unofficial transcript online.

When is the deadline to turn in my application?

The deadline for all applications to be turn in to your Guidance Counselor/Office is November 15th. A representative from the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club will be collecting the submitted applications on or shortly after this date. Please be sure you fill out and turn-in your application to your Guidance Counselor or submit your application online, with your short essay, and unofficial transcript by the above date in order to be considered for a scholarship. 

When will I hear whether I have been chosen for a Scholarship or not?

Once you have turned in your completed application packet prior to the deadline, the Scholarship Committee will begin the process of selecting applicants for the many Scholarships that are available. The Committee will meet twice to finalize the process and make the appropriate selections. You will receive an e-mail and phone call during the month of December if you have been selected. If you do not hear from us by December 31st, unfortunately you have not been selected for a scholarship. Once again, a congratulatory e-mail followed by a phone call from a club representative will be given to those selected as scholarship recipients.

Once I am selected as a recipient to receive a Scholarship at the Annual Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club Award's Dinner, how does the process continue?

Congratulations on being selected! Now the process of making sure everything is perfect for your recognition begins. You will be notified by one of our club representatives about our informational meeting and Annual Scholarship Recipient Brunch which will take place in January at a date and time TBA and will be at the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Club. The specifics about this function will be provided to you as well as posted on our website and social media platforms as we get closer (So be sure to follow us on our social media platforms through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). Prior to the brunch, you will need to submit online a short bio of yourself, your accomplishments both academically and athletically, future collegiate plans academically and/or athletically; You will also need to submit online a head shot photo of yourself for our Program Book, the newspaper, our website and social media outlets. You will be given notification of this process for online submission upon your selection as a recipient for a scholarship with the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club.

**Please Note** failure to submit the above mentioned items by the TBA January date, which is the date of the Annual Recipient Brunch above, may result in your forfeiture as a recipient for a scholarship with the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club. It is vital for the process that you submit the above items online by this January TBA date to ensure that all information is accurately accounted for in time for the Annual Awards Dinner, our Program Book and any press releases that we will have over the coming months. We ask that you are very diligent with this process.

 

The Program Advertisement Book will be distributed at the Annual Awards Dinner in April. Once again, the above items are crucial for us to do our job in highlighting your accomplishments and assuring that everything runs smooth on the day of the Awards Dinner. You will also need to reserve and/or confirm/pay for how many seats and/or tables you will need for the 45th Annual Awards Dinner. There will be a club representative who will be taking that information and payments electronically at the time of the Annual Recipient Brunch in January as well as at our Annual Pasta Dinner Fundraiser, which will be in February at a date TBA from 12:00noon - 3:00pm at the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Club.

 

This is very important in order for us to ensure an accurate head count. Once again, you may also pay for any tickets/tables at our Annual Pasta Dinner in February as well. Information regarding our Program Book and how you can purchase space/ads within the Program book will be distributed at this time as well and is also currently available HERE.

Are there any other events or functions prior to the Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club Annual Awards Dinner in April?

Once you have submitted your bio and head shot photo; and all your other paper work is in, the only thing you have left to do is relax! We will be having our Annual Pasta Dinner on a Sunday in February (Actual day TBA) from 12:00noon - 3:00pm at the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Club. Tickets for this are $10 and will be available at the Recipient Brunch as well as for purchase on our website. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase. These tickets will also be available at the door. The Annual Pasta Dinner is one of our two big fundraisers for the club in which we generate money to give back to you and your peers through all of our scholarships. You can also purchase space in our Program Book. Once again, Information regarding this can be found HERE. The deadline for all advertisements and/or message space in the Program Book is March 1st.

What is expected of me at the Annual Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club Awards Dinner in April?

On the day of the Awards Dinner, you will need to report to the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT by 12:00 noon. Please dress appropriately. All recipients should wear Business Formal Attire for this event. Absolutely NO JEANS, SNEAKERS or T-SHIRTS. You and your parents, along with our other esteemed honorees and award winners, will be invited to our Cocktail Hour beginning promptly at 12:00 noon for light Hors D'Oeuvres and beverages. Photos will also be taken at this time by our photographer. Once this is complete, we will begin preparations for our procession into the main hall and to your seats at the head table for the dinner. You will be directed by club representatives every step of the way.

 

Once we proceed into the hall and are seated at the head table, the program will begin. The oratorical lineup can be found in your program book and will also be posted online prior to the event so that you can see where your turn is in the program. Once introduced by one of our representatives, you will be expected to make a short, brief thank you to the family responsible for your scholarship, or to the appropriate club that may be awarding you the scholarship (Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club, Aviglianese Athletic Club, Christopher D. Corbett Foundation, etc.). Please keep your remarks brief as we will have over 30 scholarships, awards, and special recognition to give out during this event. **You are expected to stay until the very end of the program. Please do not leave after you are announced and awarded. Please be considerate to the last recipient/award winner just as you were to the first**

When and how do I receive my Scholarship following the Awards Dinner?

The Greater Waterbury Sportsmen's Club will begin disbursement of the scholarship monies beginning August 1st just prior to the start of your first semester in college. In order for you to receive this money, you will need two submit either a copy of your Fall class schedule/course verification sheet at the institution you will be continuing your education OR a letter stating your enrollment at the institution where you will be continuing your education for the Fall. **PLEASE NOTE: A letter of acceptance into a college/university will NOT suffice for this requirement. We want to know that you are, indeed, attending college in the Fall** 

Once we have received this info, YOU will be mailed the check for the scholarship after August 1st. Instructions on where to send/submit this paperwork and to whom will be given at a later date.

 

**PLEASE NOTE: We will be sending the check to you, personally, and not the institution you will be attending. Please be aware of this so that you can plan your financial plan accordingly**
